Secure Socket Layer SSL encrypts data in transit between your customers and clients, and your server. Obtaining SSL from a trusted source will protect you, and your clients. SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. It is an encryption technology that introduces security for transmission of sensitive data (i.e. credit card numbers) over an open network (i.e. the Internet). Once credit card numbers are received by the merchant, usually via e-mail over secure network, the merchant will process the credit card numbers and the payments via other means. There are two ways to implement SSL for your web site. Both methods are included as part of every web hosting package we offer. You will not incur additional charges from ResponsiveWeb for having this feature enabled. However, you have to contact us to get SSL enabled for your web site. Method 1: Your Own SSL Certificate In order to get your own SSL Certificates, your web site has to be registered with a Certificate Authority, i.e. Verisign or Thawte. ResponsiveWeb recommends Equifax SSL Certificates, and sells them for $200 per year. With your own SSL Certificates, you will be able to access your web pages and CGI's with: https://www.yourdomain.com or https://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/ Method 2: Use ResponsiveWeb's SSL Certificate You can also use our SSL Certificate. The only difference is that the URL you use to access your web pages and CGI's in secure mode is different.
